Join Us

We offer a range of artistic swimming pathways for children aged seven through to adults. We are proud to be inclusive, welcoming male and female swimmers of all abilities.

We ask that beginners complete Swim England Stage 6 before joining us or can confidently swim 25m in each of the three main strokes (front, back and breast). Once you start, we encourage continued lane swimming, along with dance or gymnastics to help with flexibility.

Training sessions currently run at Leisure At Cheltenham, GL1 in Gloucester, and at Cheltenham College.  Our starter sessions for children are held on Sunday evenings at Leisure At Cheltenham.

Anyone interested in joining the club, whether as a beginner, experienced swimmer, or volunteer, should email us on office@cheltenhamartisticswimmingclub.com. New starters are offered two free trial sessions.

How do swimmers progress through the club?

Swimmers start by working towards the ASA Artistic Swimming Awards 8 – 10 in our Academy squads (except when joining Masters) and then work through routine, figure and land grades. Swimmers are usually able to compete once they have left our Academy squads.

How many sessions a week will my child be asked to swim?

Our new starters swim for an hour a week. Once they move out of Academy they train twice a week. If they get a place in our age group squads they train 2 or 3 times a week depending on age. Masters have one session per week.

Do I need to bring any equipment to training?

Swimmers will need a one piece swimsuit, a swimming hat, goggles and a noseclip. We also encourage swimmers to bring 5 litre plastic bottles which we use as flotation devices so swimmers can learn positions without having to worry about the sculling!

How old does my child need to be to join the club?

We take swimmers from the age of 7. New starters are split by age: 7 – 10 years olds join our junior Academy, 11+ join Senior Academy and 18+ beginners join Masters.

What are the maximum ages for being a member of the club?

There is no maximum age! Anyone over the age of 18 joins our adults only section.

Can boys do artistic swimming?

Absolutely! Artistic swimming is a sport for boys and girls and we welcome any male swimmers who would like to try this sport!
